Be one of the first to experience Celebrity Xcel during its debut Caribbean season. I am not much of a gambler, but my husband did enjoy blackjack in the casino, and we met friends for a drink in the Casino Bar, which was often not busy. Onboard passenger traffic is served by 12 elevators and 4 clusters of stairways.
This has been something I always thought of doing, and I was well organized this time and booked it before we boarded. It is kind of genius that cruise lines charge you for this and that they sell out. There were several upscale shops on the ship, all with standard ones like Tiffany.
Each evening it hosted a lively show where the bartenders' twirled bottles in the air and then jumped up on the counter and poured a magical concoction into a glass. I was impressed with the live music and the diversity of songs throughout the eleven days. For an outdoor lounge space that features private alcoves and leafy greenery, you can't do better than the Rooftop Garden. Tables and chairs abound in cozy nooks, making the venue perfect for hosted games like Jenga and nighttime live music or films on the nearby outdoor movie screen. On Celebrity Edge’s itineraries you’ll visit extraordinary ports of call while sailing on the ship designed to leave the future behind.
Enormous electronic screens synced to the music or theme of the production only add to the excitement in the shows. Some of the screens rise up to reveal additional stage areas for cast members behind them. My favorite performance was “A Hot Summer Night’s Dream,” a show that blends extracts from Shakespeare’s writing with an impressive acrobatic and dance show, topped off with dramatic music.
It was evident that the design team carefully considered how each space would be used, and the flow was excellent. The other restaurants are named Cosmopolitan, Normandie, Cyprus, Tuscan, Fine Cut Steakhouse. Traditional for all new Celebrity Cruise ships is the "Rooftop Garden Grill". Among the most popular bars are Eden Bar, Martini Bar, Sunset Bar, Pool Bar. Eden's nighttime performances are, by far, the most noteworthy onboard.
The introduction of the infinite veranda is just one of the exciting features that resulted from Edge’s outward-facing design concept. With just the touch of a button, your Celebrity Edge stateroom transforms into a private veranda, bringing the outside world in. As we entered, I was surprised to see so much jungle around it, and I could hear birds calling out as we entered before 7 am. I had envisioned lots of people working frantically, with machines buzzing around. A few people onshore, but otherwise exceptionally calm and well organized. Once through the locks, we entered Gatun Lake, which was greenish in color and surprisingly beautiful.
